It will still sound artificial though, that is just the nature of pitching up sound, but I happen to prefer the bit more uncolored tone of the Sub'n'Up to the slightly more organ flavored tone of the POG, but that is really mostly a matter of personal taste and preference. I am doing kind of the same in a duo with a female drummer as well, although not specifically going for a Royal Blood like sound or style, and I will only use an octave up signal and no added 5th, since I already use a lot of harmonies and chords in my bass lines for that project.Īs octave up pedal I will be using a TC Electronic Sub'n'Up, that like the EHX POG tracks amazingly well, although in my opinion sounding a bit less synthy or organ like than the POG and a bit more like the pure octave up signal you would get from pitching up your audio signal on a computer.

Royal Blood splits up the signal from the bass in two, one line going to the bass amp (+ eventual effects I am not aware of) and one line going through an EHX POG transforming the bass signal into an octave up fake guitar signal that then goes into a Boss PS-6 that adds a 5th to the octave up signal simulating a guitar power chord, then obviously into some sort of dirt pedal and likely some other pedals as well before finally going into a guitar amp.
